Where’s the Magic Ball? Last Seen at the 5 Rings Telecom Company Golf Day at Gatton Manor

Their philosophy is ‘It’s all about the service…’ and that is why if you had phoned 5 Rings Telecom on Friday 19th June your call would have still been answered within five rings, despite some key members of the team being out on the fairways at Gatton Manor Golf Course in Surrey.5 Rings Company Golf Day Yes, Round Three of the 2015 South Coast Golf Tour played host to the 5 Rings Telecom Company Golf Day and with it came some valuable business building opportunities, some sporting competition and some interesting golfing attire – we really must sort out that best dressed award!

The Longest Drive

With Gatton Manor home to the longest hole in South East England at 645 yards, it was the perfect opportunity to set up a longest drive competition – and boy was it long. It was all in the swing as players lined up to whack the ball as hard and as far as they could down the fairway, but in the end it was our very own Tour Director, Dave Fluke, who was able to go the distance. Better luck next time folks.

The Magic Ball

The aim of the game here is to take turns within each team to use the magic ball so that The Magic Ball - Golf Networking someone is playing it on every hole and, crucially, to make sure you still have it at the end of the round. The dedication to the cause was remarkable, with teams searching high and low, desperate to bring their magic ball home. Stephen Hollamby from Bennett Griffin even waded barefoot into what can only be described as a swamp to retrieve his team’s ball, only to discover afterwards that it wasn’t theirs at all. At the end of the day only five out of 13 magic balls survived the course and the one with the winning score belonged to Ian Ward from Symonds and Reading, Sarah Jewell from ALC Health, Henry Osler from ODT Solicitors, and Tony Harvey from Dynamic Cloud Services.

5 Rings on the 18th Hole

Along with many great traditions from their five years on the South Coast Golf Tour, this year saw the return of the 5 Rings 18th Hole Challenge. Yes, this literally involves trying to hit your ball so that it lands inside or touching one of five plastic rings placed out on the 18th hole. But after much concentration and some agonisingly close calls, no-one was up to the challenge – do you have the skill to take on the rings next year? The 1st place tour member for Round Three was Keir McCarthy from HRS Recruitment winning Golf for Four at Gatton Manor Golf Club, a bottle of Lanson Champagne and Port. It’s not too late to get involved in the 2015 South Cast Golf Tour with the next stop being Wildwood Golf Club for the Orion Lightning Protection Client Hospitality Day – secure your place for the 10th July now. Networking in the Sun and a Hole in One – The South Coast Golf Tour tees off for 2015

Ham Manor Golf Club April 9th was no ordinary Thursday – it marked the start of the greatly anticipated 5th anniversary year of The South Coast Golf Tour which not only marked the return of invaluable business networking opportunities but also the return of the sunshine. With Ham Manor playing host, players couldn’t wait to get stuck in to this challenging 18 hole parkland course – but not before a bacon butty of course. First on the day’s itinerary came the well-loved annual Charity Putting Competition which is always a great way to break the ice and get the day underway.  The quick putting green at Ham Manor made for a satisfying challenge and some close competition. Then, the moment everyone was waiting for, it was time to tee off. With a two tee start, 1st and 10th tees, the teams headed towards the sunshine with the newly introduced VPAR (a real-time leaderboard app) system to hand. This allowed players to keep tabs on the score whilst on the course creating a whole new dynamic to the game.VPAR System Not only did the addition prove very popular with players and attendees alike, but it allowed everyone to witness the moment Dave Fluke, Tour Director, made his first hole in one in 25 years of playing. This fantastic triumph was a great joy for both Dave and the rest of the players because, as per golf etiquette, Dave was then required to buy a round of drinks. Success!Hole in One Whilst players enjoyed a delicious dinner it was great to see some new business relationships blossoming after a great day both on and off the course – but the event wasn’t quite over yet, there was still time to celebrate the day’s achievements with the prize-giving ceremony. Find out the event results, individual prize-winners and order of merit points here. With the 2015 Tour now underway, the next event is the Worthing & Ardur Chamber Golf Day at Worthing Golf Club – don’t miss out, secure your ticket now. Getting Off to a Shotgun Start at the Carpenter Box Company Golf Day

Written by Admin on . Posted in Business Networking, News

The Carpenter Box Company Golf Day always serves up some delights, and we’re not just talking about the full English breakfast and the indulgent chocolate tart that were on the Carpenter Box Car menu this year. For the fifth year in a row, Carpenter Box they did not disappoint, cooking up a day full of valuable business relationship building, healthy competition out on the course and a flurry of new players to the tour, including Best Guest prize winner Andrew Steer from HSBC.

A Shotgun Start

It was a shotgun start at East Sussex National Golf Club in Uckfield on the 22nd May with 11 teams teeing off at the same time from different holes around the course. Whilst the weather was kind to us and the course conditions almost perfect, the lakes certainly proved a challenge for many players at this 72 par scenic course, not least for our own Assistant Tour Director, Matt Clifton-Bowley who watched his first shot land straight in the drink. Not even the specially branded Carpenter Box tees could help him this time. The vast number of trees and narrow fairways were no match for Paul Froome from Sussex Transport, who beat the rest at the test securing his First Place Tour Member Prize of a bottle of Lanson Champagne and golf for four at Gatton Manor Golf Club in Surrey – even 2011 Tour Champion Pete Raynsford from 5 Rings Telecom has to settle for runner-up to this man on the day. The main advantage of the shotgun start was that with everyone back in at the same time, Post-round drinksplayers got the chance to connect with people from other teams and expand their business network – and to enjoy a nice cold beverage together at the bar, of course.

 The Prize-giving…

After a busy day building better business on and off the course, it was time to celebrate some great golfing with Charlie Eve, a partner at Carpenter Box, presenting both team and individual prizes, as well as announcing the winner of the  Charity Putting competition for dizzy:supportfordiabetes. Find out all of the results and the order of merit points here. With the 2015 Tour now in full swing, the next event is the 5 Rings Company Golf Day at Gatton Manor  – don’t miss out, book your ticket for the 19th June now.
